Butet Saddle Types

Original Butet Saddle

The Original Butet is offered in narrow, regular and wide tree widths. These saddles, as well as all Butet saddles, are offered in the traditional style panel and the integrated panel. The integrated panel creates a closer feel and is generally suited to rounder-backed horses.

FB2 Butet

The FB2 is wider than the Original Butet and has a more open gullet area. This saddle is perfect for today's wider warmbloods. On the tree chart below, note that the tree widths range from 25cm to 28cm. The standard FB2 saddle tree is 26cm. It is available in flat, deep and extra deep seats.

Baby Butet

The Baby Butet saddle is designed for the young pony rider. It is available in two seat sizes: BB1 is 14 1/2" and BB2 is 15". They can both be ordered with a short flap (00) or a regular flap (0).

Dressage Butet

The Butet Dressage is the most exciting dressage saddle on the market today. Featuring a sleek, more defined pommel and top line area, yet still rides like many top dressage saddles. It is available in various tree widths and flap lengths. One of its greatest features is the covered, padded mono flap, which offers a superior close contact feel for optimal communication between horse and rider.

Premium Butet

Frederic Butet's newest saddle, the Premium Butet, is fully covered with soft leather that is first chrome tanned and retanned in the traditional vegetable tanning method. This double process gives the saddle a soft and comfortable feel that riders love. The vegetable tanning also gives the leather a fuller body resulting in longer durability. Covered saddles tend to require greater maintenance because the outer layer of leather is softer and thinner than solid full grain leather. However, this leather has gone through several years of testing and has been proven to be the best available througout the world. The Premium Butet is offered in the Original and FB2 versions as well as the original billet system or the new biased billet system. The new biased system helps to create and maintain a more even panel-weight distribution.

Butet Saddle Panels

"A" Panel

The Butet "A" Panel is built up at the back of the saddle. Regular A is .07cm and Double (AA) is 1.2cm.

"B" Panel

The Butet "B" Panel is built up from the point of the tree all the way back to the cantle. This creates more room for the wither and spine. Regular B is .07cm and Double (BB) is 1.2cm.

"C" Panel

The Butet "C" Panel is built up in front and at the top to maintain contact for wider saddles. This corrects the issue of gapping when you need a very wide tree.

"D" Panel

The Butet "D" Panel is made slightly more thin at the front to accommodate a tight fit behind the shoulder.

"E" Panel

The Butet "E" Panel is thinned slightly at the outside back. Whenever necessary, this reduces bulk at the outside edge.

"ESP" Panel

The Butet "ESP" Panel has a larger bearing surface behind the shoulder. This panel design is beneficial for horses that have a high wither and drop off from the spine. The panel is significantly thicker to accommodate the lower back.

We can combine any of the above panel patterns to achieve the best possible fit for the horse and rider. For example: You select the saddle style and width of tree, but the horse requires more wither clearance and support at the back to keep the saddle from dropping down. Your order may require the Original Butet standard tree (24cm) with an AB panel design.
