Wire ring cheeks are useful on horse's who tend to "hang" on the bit, as they slide through the mouthpiece when rein pressure is applied and released. The angle of the middle link allows it to rest on the horse's tongue, without pinching, utilizing the sensitivity of the tongue to maximize the communication between horse and rider. The thickness of the mouthpiece distributes pressure over a greater surface area, making it a mild bit.
