While the full cheek aids in lateral control, putting gentle pressure on the outside of the horse's mouth, the keys on the mouthpiece aid in increased salivation and acceptance of the bit. The purpose of the keys is to encourage the horse to accept the bit by "mouthing," which increases salivation. As the horse continues to salivate and "play" with the keys, he will begin to relax his lower jaw, a fundamental key in training. Size 5 only. |
